It was back in December 2020 I started a campaign to save a lime tree on Bricket Road, St Albans that got earmarked for felling because it would, allegedly, have hindered the view of traffic emerging from an underground car park, which was part of the local council's development scheme named Civic Centre Opportunity Site South.
Thanks to the response of the general public to a petition to save the tree, a meeting with Herts County Council, which is responsible for highways, resulted in a redesign of the car park entrance and saving the tree.
It did suffer a severe pruning when steel beams for the new building needed to be craned in but true to nature it has bounced back - apart from its natural beauty, long may this tree continue to help with the absorption of carbon dioxide, and be an important ally in the fight against climate change.
